I pride myself in being the type of
interior designer
who does not need to order everything custom for my clients. When I use the word custom, I am defining this as having the ability to choose different wood finishes (both in wood species and color), the fabric can be selected fro m 1000’s of different options, the cushions can be various degrees of firmness, hardware can change fro m brass to satin nickel, etc. I’m sure you get the idea.
Don’t misunderstand – I love custom pieces and use them often in my design plans. I don’t, however, think it is always necessary to confuse matters with so many options. For almost any scenario, designers have access to hundreds, if not thousands, of unique tables, occasional chairs, bookcases, dining tables, etc., and there will always be something that will fit perfectly into your space without going overboard.
The quality of custom upholstery pieces may be higher but in a living room where the space has less traffic, the type of frame construction isn’t as significant. Below are some of my most recent favorite stock items that are not custom and can be ordered “as is.”
